Low on snack ideas? Here are some creative ways to use peanut butter to make fun meal prep snacks! From PB yogurt dip to ants on a log, here are 4 Peanut Butter Snack Box Meal Prep Ideas to make-ahead for snack time!
Jump to Recipe
If you love peanut butter and snacks, you’re definitely in the right place! These snack box ideas came about a random test to see how well ants on a log held up in the fridge overnight.
To my surprise, it actually worked really well. The PB is held in place by the chilly temps and the celery stays good for at least 4 days if it was fresh to begin with.
I’m sure that ‘how to make ants on a log’ is pretty self-explanatory, so I decided it was more important to expand on the idea of peanut butter snacks and meal prep box ideas. Three more PB ideas were born, and now I’ve got 4 Peanut Butter Snack Box Meal Prep Ideas to share with you!
The four snack box ideas are: Peanut Butter Yogurt Dip Snack Box, Ants on a Log Snack Box, Peanut Butter Crackers Sandwiches Snack Box, and Peanut Butter Banana Rolls Snack Box.
What are the ingredients in each of these snack boxes?
The ingredients for these peanut butter snack box ideas are fun and easy. I encourage you to start by thinking of items you already have around your kitchen and pantry, then branch out from there if you need to. That’s what I did!
These snack box ideas are just that – ideas! Add your own touch. It doesn’t have to be exactly these ingredients ๐ Here are the specific ingredients I used in each Peanut Butter Snack Box Meal Prep:
Peanut Butter Yogurt Dip Snack Box
- Peanut Butter Yogurt Dip – This dip is a simple mixture of peanut butter, maple syrup, and yogurt! I was *shocked* at how delicious it turned out. Full recipe with some options below!
- Vanilla Baton Wafers – Confession, this is something I went out and bought specifically for this snack box. These adorable wafer sticks from Trader Joe’s are perfect for dipping!
- Apple Slices – I put half an apple in this snack box after slicing and soaking in salt water (sounds weird but it seems to work, I had to try it!). More info on this method from Serious Eats here!
- Strawberries and Blueberries – These were some other fresh fruits I already had in my fridge, and they go great with the yogurt dip!
Ants on a Log Snack Box
- Celery Sticks – Here we have our logs! I like to choose celery sticks with a deeper interior curve so you can fit more PB in. Cut them to the length of your container compartment!
- Peanut Butter – I use all-natural creamy peanut butter with peanuts and salt as the only ingredients.
- Raisins – I used some Sun Maid raisins I already had in my pantry for my ants.
- Round Crackers – For these, you can use any crackers you have on hand. I used round crackers from Trader Joe’s that are very similar to Ritz!
- Babybel Cheese – Cheese with crackers is a must! I added this from my fridge! You could also use sliced cheese.
- Chocolate Candy – Obviously I want some chocolate involved whenever there’s space, alright? You do you ๐
Peanut Butter Crackers Sandwiches Snack Box
- Round Crackers – For these, go for a round flaky cracker with the little holes in the top. Something like Ritz, or the version that Trader Joe’s has works great too. I’ve found that these crackers hold their texture and crisp factor really well in the fridge.
- Peanut Butter – I use all-natural creamy peanut butter with peanuts and salt as the only ingredients.
- Mini Brie Bites – Another little splurge from Trader Joe’s just to show you how easy it is to customize these snack boxes. Remember these cute little individual bries from the TJ’s Spring Snack Board?
- Strawberries and Blueberries – These were some other fresh fruits I already had in my fridge. I love them on their own but they definitely add some freshness to the cracker sandwiches and brie.
Peanut Butter Banana Rolls Snack Box
- Small Tortilla – Use your favorite tortilla here, something you know won’t rip and will hold up in the fridge for a couple days.
- Medium Banana – Find a smaller banana, perhaps about the diameter as the tortilla. Bread it in half in the middle to kinda get rid of the curve when you make your banana roll-ups.
- Peanut Butter – I use all-natural creamy peanut butter with peanuts and salt as the only ingredients.
- Carrot Sticks – These are from my garden. Work with what you’ve got!
- Chocolate Candy – Yes, I already added chocolate candies to another snack box. But it’s chocolate.
What kind of peanut butter do you use?
I use all-natural creamy peanut butter with peanuts and salt as the only ingredients. I love the Costco Kirkland brand!
Peanut Butter Yogurt Dip Snack Box
This peanut butter yogurt dip snack box is quite possibly my favorite of the four options. Anything you wanna dip in something peanut buttery and sweet, you should add to this box!
My version has sliced apples, berries, wafer batons, and the star, yogurt fruit dip. This box can last in the fridge for up to 4 days or however long your fruit looks good.
How do you make the fruit dip?
The fruit dip is super easy. All you do is mix all three ingredients up in a bowl, done! I tested with both Tillamook Vanilla Bean Yogurt and Fage Plain Greek yogurt. I preferred the Greek yogurt version, but they were both good!
Greek yogurt version: Thicker consistency, creamy, a little more tasty in my opinion
Regular vanilla yogurt version: Thinner consistency, sweeter, more of a PB vanilla vibe than just PB
Here’s what each version looked like:
The recipe below makes 4 servings, each about 1/3 of a cup or so. You can either portion it out into meal prep containers, or keep it in one big bowl in the fridge and take some as you need.
For the vanilla baton wafers, I used a smaller serrated knife to cut them into thirds so they would fit into my meal prep containers.
How do you keep apples from turning brown?
For the Peanut Butter Yogurt Dip Snack Box, I sliced apples and immediately placed them in a bowl full of 2 cups water with 1 teaspoon kosher salt. It definitely helped prevent browning!
I did not do tests and compare with lemon juice, but if you want more info on this method, check out the Serious Eats post on How to Prevent Cut Apples from Browning – they did real tests and shared the results on several methods!
Ants on a Log Snack Box
This is a classic and the original peanut butter snack!! I first tested this snack box weeks ago and determined it was a viable meal prep option. But I wanted more peanut butter ideas before sharing. Well here we are!
My version has the ants on a log, some cheese and crackers, and of course some chocolate candies ๐ This box will last up to 4 days in the fridge.
Make sure to cut your celery sticks to a size that will fit into your meal prep containers. I prefer 4-6 ants on a log in my snack box.
For assembly, I prefer to add peanut butter to the celery until it’s level with the edges, and then add maybe a few more ants than I was originally allowed as a kid.
Gently stack these in the meal prep container, add your sides, and you’re good to go.
Peanut Butter Banana Rolls Snack Box
Peanut butter and banana is another classic combo from my childhood. I put the two together here by slathering the tortilla in peanut butter and then rolling the banana up! Slice it into 6 pieces and it fits perfectly into these 3 compartment glass meal prep containers (affiliate link!).
For this snack box, I included the banana roll ups, some carrot sticks, and chocolate candies. Super simple! Store in the fridge and enjoy within 3 days. The banana might brown a little but it is still safe to eat.
I recommend using a smaller banana and a taco size tortilla for this snack. Slice it into 6 pieces and it will fit perfectly into the meal prep containers.
Use a butter knife to slather the tortilla with peanut butter, all the way to the edges. Add the banana, breaking it in the middle if necessary. Roll the tortilla up with the banana inside. Use a serrated knife to cut the roll into 6 pieces. They fit perfectly into the meal prep containers!
Peanut Butter Crackers Sandwiches Snack Box
This cute one was inspired by those packaged cracker sandwiches I always loved as a kid. Guess what? You can make your own!
My version of the PB crackers box has the PB cracker sandwiches, a mini Brie bite from Trader Joe’s, and some fresh berries. This box will last up to 3 days in the fridge.
When assembling this one, be sure to spread a very small amount of PB on each cracker. A little goes a long way! I like 4-6 cracker sandwiches in a snack box.
What kind of peanut butter do you use?
I use all-natural creamy peanut butter with peanuts and salt as the only ingredients. I love the Costco Kirkland brand!
Where do you get those meal prep containers?
The meal prep containers pictured in this post are 3 Compartment Glass Meal Prep Containers (affiliate link!) from Prep Naturals on Amazon.
They come with plastic lids, which I hand wash to help them last longer. However, the glass base containers can go in dishwasher which makes it pretty easy. These containers have lasted me over three years so far with normal use.
Can I use a different nut butter instead of peanut butter?
Yes, you can use your favorite kind of nut butter. If you’re allergic to peanut butter or don’t like it for some reason, I would go with almond butter instead.
Alternative customization ideas:
For any of these snack boxes, feel free to mix, match and customize to make your perfect peanut butter snack box meal prep. In addition to what I chose for my boxes, here are some more ideas to fill these snack box containers:
- grapes
- chips
- nuts
- trail mix
- cucumbers
- hard boiled egg
- snap peas and more!
How long do these Peanut Butter Snack Boxes last in the fridge?
Since each of these ideas has different ingredients, they’ll last slightly different amounts of time in the fridge. I have tested these ingredients, but your results will vary based on the brands and freshness you choose.
Store all meal prep snack boxes with their airtight lids in the fridge.
Peanut Butter Yogurt Dip Snack Box – Up to 4 days.
