New to meal prep? Here are my best tips:
- Keep it simple. Instead of trying to cook four brand new recipes all in one day, pick only one, maybe two new recipes at a time. After some practice, they’ll become easier and you can add another new recipe without getting overwhelmed.
- Break it down over a couple days. Don’t try to plan, shop and cook all in one day. Instead, do a maximum of one of two of those tasks per day over time.
- Get some sturdy containers. Invest in some high quality glass containers. Your food will last longer and stay fresher in containers with airtight seals. I also love clear glass so you can see exactly what’s inside. More of my container recommendations here.

hmm…These were listed as make ahead lunches. I think all the sandwiches, wraps and rolls would be a mushy soggy mess if made even the night before. Any salad with lettuce would be brown and wilted if made ahead. Great lunch ideas, but not much that could be made ahead and still be appetizing.
Danielle says
Hi Carol! Hopefully there was still a helpful idea or two on this list for you!
I prepare lunch salads ahead often and I never end up with brown lettuce. That is unfortunate if you are having that experience! I try to use the freshest possible lettuce, and always eat them within four days. I package the dressing separately and add it to the salad right before eating.
I have personally tried several items on this list and really enjoyed them as lunches. Pinwheels are my favorite. In the recipe post for the pinwheels on this list, I do talk about how using condiments such as mayo or mustard will create a soggy roll, so instead I like to use cream cheese.
Sometimes it just takes a bit of experimentation to figure out what works for you. Hope you’ll give some of these ideas a try! Thank you for your comment! – Danielle

Great suggestion with the cream cheese! I think the garden veggie or chive cream cheese would be excellent on a wrap! Thank you!!!]

Also if you like mayo n mustard put condiments between the meat or lettuce and not directly on tortilla wrap. Keeps the wrap dry. A squirt of lemon on the salad keeps it fresh.

What containers are these tri-holders? Do they leak?
Danielle says
The 3 compartment containers are from Amazon made by a brand called Prep Naturals. I have never had a full container leak before, but they do not seal between compartments, so it’s best to keep it upright and flat when possible. Any of my recipes featuring these containers will have the link in the recipe card!
