What are the ingredients in this Cozy Apple Pie Smoothie?
This smoothie comes together easily with pantry staples. You might already have everything on hand, especially if it’s apple season! I had to buy Greek yogurt, but otherwise I already had what I needed to experiment with these smoothie flavors. Here’s what I used, plus a little info on each:
- apple – This recipe calls for one whole apple (with the core removed, of course). You can use any kind of apple, but the variety will transfer flavor the smoothie. I like honeycrisp, but I think that granny smith would also be a good option for a pie vibe.
- rolled oats – Also known as old fashioned oats. This gives you a bit of the crust flavor of the pie and adds an earthy background flavor that’s lovely.
- maple syrup – The apple is a little sweet, but you’ll need another hit of maple syrup, which also provides flavor with the sweetness.
- vanilla extract – Any pie has to have some vanilla, so naturally this pie smoothie does too.
- cinnamon – The other spices are optional, but this one is absolutely required. It’s not apple pie without cinnamon!
- ground nutmeg & ginger – Adding a small pinch of each of these flavors really enhances the pie taste. But if you don’t have them, the smoothie is still delicious without!
- vanilla protein powder – For even more vanilla flavor and another hit of protein, I encourage you to add a half scoop of your favorite vanilla protein powder.
- Greek yogurt – This helps make the smoothie creamy and balances out all the other sweet ingredients.
- ice cubes – Since this smoothie has no frozen fruit, adding some ice is essential to chilling the rest of the ingredients as they all blend together.

Equipment youโll need to make this smoothie:
The most important tool you’ll need is your blender. I prefer to use a high powered blender for smoothies, such as a Nutribullet High Speed Blender (affiliate link!) or my Vitamix. Whatever appliance you normally use for smoothies (and you know it can blend ice) will work just fine.
How to make Cozy Apple Pie Smoothie:
If you’re a pro at smoothies, I don’t need to tell you how to make this one. It goes the same as any other you’ve made before (maybe a little thinner). But if you want a few tips, here’s what I recommend.
Here’s how you should make this smoothie, according to me:
- Grab all your ingredients except the ice. Core your apple and cut it into slices. I grab the ice last just so it doesn’t melt.
- Add ingredients to your blender in this order to make sure everything blends properly (if you are using a Nutribullet, reverse the order since it flips upside down!):
- Start with the apple. You want this ingredient closest to the blades so the other ingredients push the slices down and they can completely pulverize. The apples will create liquid, which helps blend the remaining ingredients.
- Next, add the softer ingredients, in this case the oats, spices and protein powder. You could add the yogurt here, or on top with the ice.
- Next, add the harder ingredients, which means the ice. Having plenty of liquid already blended up will help blend the ice in easily.
- Finally, add any extra liquid needed to blend. For this recipe, I find you don’t need to add any extra liquid. But if you did, you would add it last, just a couple tablespoons at a time.

- Blend and use the tamper to push ingredients down as you go, if necessary. Enjoy it immediately!

Best tips for making this smoothie:
Here are some tips for making this smoothie as delicious as can be:
- Put the apples into the blender first so they are closest to the blades. This will help them blend well, and create liquid in order to help blend the other ingredients better.
- Use your favorite variety of apple. I used honeycrisp, but I think that a granny smith would also be delicious for this recipe. Did you know apples are made up of around 85% water? The apple will give us most of the liquid for the smoothie.
- This smoothie is relatively thin in consistency because there’s no frozen fruit used. However, if you want it thicker, you could use more yogurt and ice. You may also need a little more sweetener in that case.
Ways to meal prep this recipe:
Here’s one way you could save time by preparing ahead with this recipe:
- Measure out the dry ingredients and place them in a single container ready to go into the blender in the morning.
- While it is possible to freeze apple slices, I prefer to avoid browning and just cut the apple right before making the smoothie.

How to store leftover Apple Pie Smoothie:
While this smoothie is intended to be one serving without leftovers, if you do end up with leftovers, no worries. You can freeze them into cubes using a Souper Cubes 2 Tablespoon Freezing Tray (affiliate link!) and then re-blend in the future.
